Bring Your Old, Unwanted Drugs to Saturday's Take-Back Event

Drop off your unwanted, expired medications during Saturday's Earth Day Indiana Festival and let someone else worry about the rest!

INDIANAPOLIS -- If you have expired or unwanted drugs lurking in the back of your medicine cabinet, you'll have a chance to safely dispose of them this weekend.

Indy Metro Police and Drug Free Marion County will host an 'Earth Day Drug Take Back Event' during Saturday's Earth Day Indiana Festival at Military Park.

Members of both organizations will be accepting medications at a drug take-back booth from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.

The following drugs will be accepted at the booth:

  • Prescription and Over-The-Counter Medications
  • Vitamins
  • Drug Samples
  • Pet Medications
  • Ointments
  • Lotions
  • Liquid Medications (Glass or Leak-Proof Containers)

The following items will not be accepted:

  • Loose Pills
  • Needles
  • Thermometers
  • Hydrogen Peroxide
  • Aerosol Cans

Items collected at the event will be turned over to local energy-from-waste provider Covanta, which will destroy the drugs at their Indy facility. Covanta sells the steam energy produced in this process to Citizens Energy, which supplies power to the Indy loop.
