Carmel Named Best Small City to Raise a Family

Finance and investing website SmartAsset.com says Carmel's low crime rate helped lift it to #1.

CARMEL, Ind. -- Finance and investing website SmartAsset.com has named Carmel, Ind. as the best small city to raise a family.

The website says "a lack of crime is the reason Carmel is rated so highly" and found that Carmel had the lowest crime rate of any city they analyzed, with only 1,002 crimes (property and violent crimes combined) per 100,000 residents.

Carmel also gets high marks for its 2 percent unemployment rate, high school graduation rate of nearly 94 percent and median household income of $108,000

SmartAsset looked at 210 cities with a population between 65,000 and 100,000 and ranked them according to a combination of 9 metrics, including family poverty ratecrime ratechildcare facility density and unemployment rate.
