Child Drowns in Avon Retention Pond

A child died after being pulled from an Avon retention pond by a group of good Samaritans on Monday afternoon.

The incident happened near West 21st Street and North Raceway Road in the Wynbrooke subdivision just before 3 p.m.

A 7-year-old was pulled from the pond and rushed to the hospital, officials with the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department confirmed. Officials later confirmed the child died at the hospital.

People in the neighborhood performed CPR until emergency crews arrived to the scene.
