Colts Place Andrew Luck on IR

Colts GM Chris Ballard says shutting Luck down for the season is "the best course of action".

INDIANAPOLIS -- Andrew Luck's season is over before it began.

Colts General Manager Chris Ballard announced Thursday afternoon that Luck has been placed on Injured Reserve.

His season is officially over and he will not practice or play with the team.

On Thursday, Luck told colts.com that he remains "very optimistic" about his future.

"I wish I was better and 100 percent this season, but that’s not the case," Luck said. "I know I’ll be better from this. I know I’ll be a better quarterback, teammate, person and player from this, and I’m excited for the future."

Ballard says Luck needs more rehab for his damaged shoulder. But, like his quarterback, Ballard remains optimistic about the future:

"We'll take the approach that Luck is going to be there come training camp, or early."
