Deputy Arrested in Relation to Delaware County Drug Ring Bust

17 people were arrested, plenty of drugs were found and police say they got a sheriff's deputy who was helping it all go down. Why? The kingpin might be his nephew.

Chris Davis contributed to this report.

MUNCIE, Ind. – Cops are supposed to bust drug-rings, not help run them, but that's exactly what a Delaware County Sheriff's Deputy is accused of doing.

The deputy

Muncie narcotics officers arrested 37-year-old Jerry Parks Thursday night after a months-long probe by the Muncie PD and Indiana State Police.

Prosecutors say Parks helped convicted felon Danny Terry run his drug ring, supplied him with drugs confiscated from offenders, and even loaned Terry his service weapon. Muncie police chief Joe Winkle said at a Friday press conference that Parks may be Terry's uncle, and that they were operating a "family-run" drug ring.

Parks is charged with multiple drug-related felonies and is on paid administrative leave from the Delaware County Sheriff's Department.

Related drug ring bust

State Police have arrested 17 people involved with the drug ring Parks is accused of aiding. Sgt. John Perrine said the investigation had been going on since March, and they're not through with it.

One pound of heroin, five ounces of meth, 20 grams of cocaine, 15 lbs. of pot, nearly $90,000, seven handguns, three rifles and one shotgun were found in the bust.

"We're fortunate we were able to get that much drugs off the street," said Perrine. "But, more importantly we were able to get 17 people off the street."

He said one of the benefits of the bust is that there are people who may have been connected to the 17 people arrested who "will no longer connect themselves to these people".

Perrine said if you know anything about drugs or drug dealing, give them a call so they can investigate.
