Authorities are searching for a teenager who went missing after attempting to rescue a friend in the Big Blue River in Edinburgh Friday.

Indiana Conservation Officer Jet Quillen says first responders were called around 12:15 on a report of five people in distress at the river.  He says five teenagers were swimming in the river when one of them, a girl, was swept over the low-head dam in the river.  The other four then tried to rescue her.

Two of the teens, including the girl, were pulled from the river and CPR was being administered when first responders arrived.  They were taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital and later airlifted to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis in critical condition.

Two others made it out of the water on their own but Quillen says authorities are still searching for the fifth.

The teens are students at Franklin Central High School.  A prayer vigil was scheduled for Friday night at the school and guidance counselors will be made available at the school beginning Saturday morning at 9:00.
