Downtown Holiday Expo To Showcase Indy-Owned Businesses

The Downtown Holiday Expo and Marketplace is from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25 at Emmis Communications on Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis.

INDIANAPOLIS – In the spirit of Small Business Saturday on Nov. 25, Indiana Originals is hosting their second annual Downtown Holiday Expo and Marketplace.

The event is from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Emmis Communications on Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis.  The expo features companies with local ownership in Indianapolis and central Indiana.

Mel McMahon, the owner of Indiana Originals, says the idea to roll out the Downtown Holiday Expo and Marketplace developed the same way that her company started.

“My husband and I were walking on Monument Circle and we wanted to go somewhere for dinner and we wanted to go somewhere local.  We just [didn’t know] how you really even know it’s local?” says McMahon.

“We found that there are a lot of people like us that want to support local, but it’s not very convenient if you can’t find them.”

McMahon says Indiana Originals started initially as an Internet directory and has since grown into a community of Indiana entrepreneurs.

“Business owners that are headquartered here in Indiana [are] putting three-to-five times as much money back into the [local] economy,” according to McMahon, who says that even the largest corporations in the U.S. once started as small businesses.

This event is free and open to the public.
