Driver Suspected in Death of Edwin Jackson Here Illegally

Indiana State Police say Manuel Orrego-Savala is in the country illegally and has been deported before.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indiana State Police have determined that the suspected drunk driver in Sunday's fatal accident on I-70 was in the country illegally.

The crash claimed the lives of ride-share driver Jeffrey Monroe of Avon and his passenger, Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson.

ISP said Monday morning that the suspected drunk driver was using the alias, Alex Cabrera Gonsales.

His given name is Manuel Orrego-Savala and he is a citizen of Guatemala who is in the United States illegally.

Orrego-Savala has been deported from the country twice: once in 2007 and again in 2009, according to ISP. Police have not said when Orrego-Savala re-entered the country or how long he has been here illegally.

State police investigators are working with U.S. Federal Immigration Officials, and they have placed a hold on Orrego-Savala. An immigration hold is when jail officials hold onto an undocumented person for eventual transfer to Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.

Orrego-Savala is being held in the Marion County Jail.

The ISP investigation into the crash is ongoing.
