Ex-Ball State Employee Gets Probation For Child Porn

Randall Schmidt told a judge he saved some of the images on his computer at BSU.

MUNCIE, Ind. -- A former Ball State University employee will serve three years probation after being found with child pornography.

Randall Schmidt, 54, pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of child pornography.

Schmidt admitted to collecting the photos over a four-year period and told the judge that he saved some of the images on his computer at BSU, where he worked as a maintenance supervisor.

As part of a plea agreement, a judge dismissed six other charges against Schmidt.

As part of his sentencing, Schmidt must register as a sex offender for 10 years and undergo mental health treatment. He is also forbidden from living in a home with children under the age of 18 unless granted permission by the court, his probation officer and mental health provider.
