Firefighters Convention Returns To Downtown Indy

More than 33,000 firefighters from across the United States and more than 55 countries from around the world are in downtown Indianapolis this week for the annual Fire Department Instructors Conference, or F.D.I.C., as it's known, for short.

INDIANAPOLIS -- More than 33,000 firefighters from across the United States and more than 55 countries from around the world are in downtown Indianapolis this week for the annual Fire Department Instructors Conference, or F.D.I.C., as it's known, for short.

Nearly 800 vendors are set up inside the Convention Center and at Lucas Oil Stadium to showcase the latest technology and services available to fire departments.

There will also be hands-on training courses, workshops and plenty of classrooms for firefighters to learn how to improve their ability to respond to an emergency and best serve their community.

"The greatest thing for the individuals that come is the knowledge they're able to take back to their departments and make them, hopefully, a better department with what they've learned," says Chad Tatman with the Greenwood Fire Department.

The convention runs now through Saturday, Apr. 28.
