Full Weather Forecast For Today and Beyond
INDIANAPOLIS--Temperatures will continue to fall across the area all day long and will be below freezing from the morning commute on and that will give us lots of problems. All the liquid on the ground will freeze pretty quickly, plus additional freezing rain through the morning commute will lead to lots of icy conditions. We aren’t looking at a lot ice in the sense it will take tree branches and power lines down but it will be enough to cause icy conditions on roads, sidewalk and parking lots.
The transition from freezing rain and sleet to snow will take place pretty quick this morning from west to east. Most of the accumulating snow will happen in the afternoon and evening hours and we are still targeting southern locations for the higher snowfall totals. In fact, once up towards Lafayette, Logansport and Kokomo you may see more ice and only an inch or so of snow. In the metro area it is 1”-3” of snow on top of any ice and then south and east of Indy we are looking at 3”-5” but only a few areas may approach that 5” mark. The snow will hamper the evening drive in those southern and eastern locations. To the north and west the snow should end by the evening drive.
Once the precipitation ends we will turn very cold and windy. Saturday we will see blowing and drifting of snow with highs near 20 degrees and wind chill values much colder than that. Sunday morning we start in the single digits and warm only into the teens and then Monday more snow is in the forecast with a quick clipper system moving through. Another couple inches will be possible.
