Funeral For Sgt. Jonathon Hunter Set For Saturday

Hunter, who grew up in Columbus, died August 2 when a suicide bomber attacked a NATO convoy outside of Kandahar, Afghanistan.

COLUMBUS, Ind. -- A Columbus man killed while serving in Afghanistan will be remembered at a public funeral service later this month.

Sgt. Jonathon M. Hunter, 23, was one of two soldiers killed Aug. 2 when suicide bombers attacked a NATO convoy outside the city of Kandahar. Four other soldiers were wounded in the attack.

He is survived by his wife, parents and several siblings.

Hunter's funeral is set for Saturday, Aug. 26 at the Columbus East High School Gymnasium. (A map of Columbus East can be found at the bottom of this page.)

Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The funeral begins at 2 and is expected to last 30 minutes. Hutner will be buried with full military honors in a private ceremony.
