Gag Order Issued in Case Against Accused Cop Killer

A Lake County judge issued a gag order in the case against a man suspected of fatally shooting a Gary police officer. 

Lake Superior Court Judge Samuel Cappas issued the order, at the request of a public defender, that prohibits lawyers and other officials involved from discussing the case against 24-year-old Carl Le'Ellis Blount, Jr outside of court. 

The man who said during his initial court hearing that he lives in Portage is charged with murder in the July 6th shooting death of Officer Jeffrey Westerfield. 

A magistrate entered a not guilty plea for Blount on Friday, and he is due back in court on July 30.
