Investigators say Kristen Gober left her three kids alone in her apartment when it caught fire.

GARY, Ind. — Charges have been filed against the mother of two young children who were killed in a apartment fire in Gary on Sunday.

According to the Times of Northwest Indiana, Kristen Gober, 33, left her three kids, ages 2, 4 and 6, alone in her apartment while she was at a nearby apartment drinking alcohol.

Investigators say one of the children was playing with the stove and caught a blanket on fire.

The fire killed two-year-old Kailani Gober and four-year-old Khristopher Gober, while her six-year-old son made it out of the burning apartment safely.

Gary Police say Kristen Gober also fled the apartment fire to safety.
