Greg Pence Files IRS Paperwork Indicating Run for Congress

It appears Pence, brother of Vice President Mike Pence, will run for Rep. Luke Messer's seat in Indiana's 6th Congressional District.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Vice President Mike Pence’s older brother Greg Pence has filed paperwork with the IRS indicating he will run for Congress in Indiana’s 6th Congressional District.

The district, which covers most of southeastern Indiana, was formerly represented by the now-vice president. Rep. Luke Messer, for whom Pence serves as campaign finance committee chairman, currently represents the district but is vacating the seat to run for the U.S. Senate.

On Monday, the IRS posted documents filed to create a new organization called “Greg Pence for Congress Inc.”

As of Wednesday afternoon, Pence had not filed paperwork with the Federal Elections Commission to formally declare himself a candidate.

Pence previously served as the CEO of Kiel Brothers Oil Co., the family business he took over from his father, Edward Pence.

The business filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2004 while Pence was serving as CEO. In a 2006 tax filing – disclosed after he was selected as then-Republican nominee Donald Trump’s running mate – Mike Pence claimed a total loss of $875,000 from his stake in Kiel Brothers.

Pence also served for a brief time during the administration of former Gov. Mitch Daniels at the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, but left his post after only a few months.
