Griffith Restaurant Closes After Customer Finds Cocaine in Carry-Out Order

The woman's order from Broad Street Gyros wasn't just wrong -- it was filled with drugs.

GRIFFITH, Ind. — A Greek restaurant in Lake County remains closed nearly a month after a customer got an unexpected and illegal surprise in her dinner.

Griffith police say a woman found a baggie of cocaine in her carry-out order from Broad Street Gyros Nov. 21. After finding the drugs, she called police.

Griffith Police Commander Keith Martin told The Northwest Indiana Times that a K-9 officer searched the restaurant several hours later and "reportedly detected the presence of drugs in several locations".

The restaurant was shuttered Nov. 22 and its operating license has since been suspended.

The Town Council voted this week "to allow the suspension to stand during the police department's investigation", according to Cmdr. Martin.

Martin says no one has claimed ownership of the cocaine and no charges have been filed.
