IMPD Lieutenant Demoted After Pleading Guilty to Dangerous Driving

Steve King was off-duty when he was arrested March 15. Police found him passed out in his truck with a blood alcohol content almost four times the legal limit.

INDIANAPOLIS -- An IMPD lieutenant who pleaded guilty to dangerous driving has been busted to sergeant.

Steve King was off-duty when he was arrested March 15.

Police found King passed out in his truck, which was stopped with the engine running, blocking both lanes of Gwin Way on the city's northeast side.

An original charge of driving drunk was dropped under a plea bargain, although the test showed King had a blood alcohol content of point-315 percent--almost four times the legal limit. He was sentenced to one year on probation and fined more than $700.

King is appealing his demotion.
