IMPD: Man Found Near White River Killed By Woman's Boyfriend
INDIANAPOLIS -- Indy Metro Police believe they now know what led to the death of man whose body was found on the bank of the White River.
IMPD tells IndyStar that Dae Mehm, 19, was beaten and left to die for texting a woman who already had a boyfriend. His body was found near White River Parkway on Feb. 22.
The woman's boyfriend, Hae Di, turned himself in to police two days later.
Di told investigators that he found out about Mehm's messages to his girlfriend and became upset. He said he texted Mehm using his girlfriend's phone and invited him over to her house.
When Mehm arrived, Di was waiting for him.
Di told Mehm who he was and the two men talked until Di's girlfriend's brother and two friends arrived. The five men got into a car, made a stop at a liquor store, and then headed to the river to drink.
Di told police that he remembers punching Mehm once; Di said his friends told him he hit the other man "several times" while his girlfriend's brother kicked Mehm in the face, court documents say.
Not long after that, Mehm was left on the river bank, where he died.
When Di found out about Mehm's death, he decided to turn himself in because he "didn't feel good" about what happened, says IndyStar.
Di is charged with felony reckless homicide and could spend up to six years in prison. He's being held on bond in the Marion County Jail.
No one else has been charged in the case.
