IMPD: Man Takes a Hammer to Confederate Marker

Marker at Garfield Park Was damaged Saturday

INDIANAPOLIS--There hasn't been any official move to move the confederate marker at Garfield Park since the discussion started last week, but police say a man took a hammer to the monument about noon Saturday.

 
Anthony Ventura, 30, was arrested and charged with vandalism, after IMPD got a call that someone was trying to destroy the marker.
 
When they got there, they found Ventura chipping away pieces of it with a hammer.
 
The marker commemorates the 1616 Confederate soldiers who died at Camp Morton in Indianapolis, during the Civil War.
