IMPD Officer Arrested for DUI in Fishers

An IMPD officer was arrested Friday morning in Fishers on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Police say Officer Allen Johnson, a five-year veteran of IMPD, was off-duty and driving his personally owned vehicle when he was arrested shortly before 7:00.  Johnson was taken to the Hamilton County Jail on a preliminary charge of Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated.

"As a department we are very disappointed right now," said Assistant Chief Lloyd Crowe "We expect our officers to have better decision making skills both on-duty and off-duty. We will continue to ensure our officers have the resources available to address stress related issues that come with a career in law enforcement, but we will not accept behavior that puts our community at risk."

IMPD says Johnson has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
