IMPD Recruit Officer Arrested, Charged in Off-Duty Assault

Moussa Niang is accused of assaulting and pointing a gun at a man in December.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Moussa Niang's days as a recruit with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department are over.

Niang, 24, is accused of assaulting a man and pointing a gun at him during an off-duty tussle over $30 on New Year's Eve. 

Niang was arrested Monday morning by the IMPD Special Investigations Unit. He is charged with Strangulation, Pointing a Firearm, and Battery.

Chief Bryan Roach has terminated Niang's employment, the department said Monday afternoon.

An initial hearing date has not yet been set.
