Indiana's First Walk Summit Underway

Hoosiers are not known for their healthy habits, but efforts are underway to make Indiana a more active and walkable state.  Health by Design is hosting Indiana’s first Walk Summit this week (Wed/Thurs) in Carmel and Indianapolis.

The group's Kim Irwin says speakers are coming from Batesville, Bloomington, Chicago, Fishers, Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, Louisville, Speedway, Valparaiso and Whitestown.

She says many communities are forging ahead with making areas more accessible to walking.

Irwin adds that community leaders understand how important walkability and access is--not only to health, but also economic development and getting people to jobs.
