Indy Councilman Has Yet To Formally Resign After Child Molesting Charges

Marion County Republican Chairman Jim Merritt says he has not yet received a formal letter of resignation from Indianapolis City-County Councilman Jeff Miller, but he says he expects an update Tuesday afternoon.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Marion County Republican Chairman Jim Merritt says he has not yet received a formal letter of resignation from Indianapolis City-County Councilman Jeff Miller, but he says he expects an update Tuesday afternoon.

Miller was arrested Friday on three counts of child molesting after investigators say he touched two underage girls inappropriately at his home.

Merritt says Miller told him Friday he would step down from his council position due to his arrest.  Merritt says he told Miller to give him a formal written letter of resignation on Monday.

Merritt will call for a special election to fill Miller's position on the city-county council once he receives his letter.
