It's All Happening at the Zoo, and Spring Time is the Right Time

Butterflies, Macaws, the rides and the orangutans are all waiting for you, now that it's warm.

INDIANAPOLIS--You'll be able to see some of the world's most beautiful flying creatures at the Indy Zoo this spring. Both butterflies and birds will be flying freely through the zoo and the White River Gardens.

"We have all sorts of things going on and spring is a really great time for people to come out because the weather is wonderful. And, just like we enjoy the weather, so do our animals," said Melanie Laurendine, spokesperson for the Indy Zoo.

She said the Magnificent Macaws presentation is where you can see the bold, bright colorful birds flying freely through the zoo. The presentations start May 27, and will talk about macaws, why they are endangered, and their place in the wild.

The Butterfly Kaleidoscope at White River Gardens is also back after a year, said Laurendine.

"There are 40 different species of butterflies and moths, for the first time this year. So, people can see the butterflies emerge from their chrysalis, which is really cool."

If you're wondering about the rides, like the family coaster, the carousel, the skyline ride, Laurendine said to be prepared to ride if it's nice outside.

"Our rides are all weather-dependent. But, as long as it's a nice warm day, everything should be open," said Laurendine.
