It's Groundhog Day: Clock Ticking Again Toward Government Shutdown
(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana Senator Joe Donnelly isn't ruling out a border wall as part of a deal to end a stalemate on immigration.
Donnelly was part of a bipartisan group of 23 senators which helped end the government shutdown last month. He says that group is still meeting and has grown to about 30. But that short-term deal runs out on Thursday.
Donnelly's not going into detail about how the group might end a standoff over the status of people brought into the U.S. illegally as children. He says the deal needs to address border security, and says he's open to including funding authorization for the Department of Homeland Security to build a wall.
Donnelly says he's still optimistic about an agreement, and notes a 30-vote bloc is enough to wield significant influence over the final bill.
