Man Admits to Killing Woman on City's South Side

A suspect is in jail after admitting to killing a woman on the city's south side Tuesday night.

IMPD officers were called around 7:00 p.m. to an apartment in the 600 block of West Hanna Avenue on a report of a possible deceased person.  When they arrived, they found 48-year-old Barbara McPheter dead inside the the apartment.

Detectives were later notified by the Steuben County Sheriff's Department that a man in their custody admitted to killing a woman in Indianapolis.  48-year-old Jimmie Monday was arrested and preliminarily charged with murder.

Police have not released any information regarding the relationship between Monday and McPheter.  Monday is scheduled to be transported back to Indianapolis for processing.
