Man Caught Filming People In The Shower At Irsay YMCA

Police have ID'd the suspect but have not arrested them yet

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis police are looking for a man accused of filming patrons in the showers at the Irsay Family YMCA downtown.

Officers were called to the YMCA at 430 S. Alabama Street around 9 p.m. Monday on a report of possible voyeurism.

When they arrived, a YMCA patron told police he believed he was being photographed or video recorded by someone while taking a shower in the facility’s locker rooms.

The suspect reportedly fled the scene when confronted.

Christy Glesing, senior director of public relations for the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis, said employees were reviewing surveillance video from outside the locker room.

“We have identified an individual who we believe is the suspect and will be passing that information along to police,” Glesing said.

According to Glesing, voyeurs are an occasional problem at the YMCA. She said they take steps to prevent such incidents, but ultimately rely on patrons to be their “eyes and ears.”

“We don’t allow cellphone usage in the locker rooms and that is posted,” Glesing said. “We do have people who go in pretty frequently to clean and monitor the locker rooms. We can’t see everything, though, so we do rely on people to be our eyes and ears in the building.”

A detailed description of the suspect was not available, and no arrests had been made as of Tuesday afternoon.
