Marion Co. Deputy Hurt in Accident With Suspected Drunk Driver

Deputy Jesse Williams was banged up after the inmate transport van he was driving got rear-ended at a stop light.

INDIANAPOLIS -- A Marion County sheriff's deputy is recovering after a suspected drunk driver rear-ended an inmate transport van early Wednesday morning.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office says Deputy Jesse Williams was taking an inmate to Eskenazi Hospital when the van he was driving was rear-ended at a stoplight near New York and West Streets.

MCSO says the other driver, 45-year-old Dena Toler, failed three field sobriety tests and was found to have a BAC more than twice the legal limit.

Toler was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

Deputy Williams was not seriously hurt in the crash; the inmate he was transporting received minor injuries. Both are expected to recover.
