Mishawaka Medical Manufacturer Closing Its Doors

The first round of layoffs at Ascensia Diabtes Care, Inc. start December 29.

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- A company that makes medical devices for diabetes patients is closing its facility in Mishawaka.

Inside Indiana Business reports New Jersey-based Ascensia Diabetes Care, Inc. will shutter its manufacturing facility by September 30, 2018.

113 workers will lose their jobs.

A company representative told IIB that  the closure is due to "changing requirements for our business", but did not elaborate.

The first round of layoffs begins December 29. The company expects the facility to be completely closed by September 30, 2018.

Ascensia makes a number of diabetes-management products, including blood glucose meters.
