Noblesville Tightens Rules For Sidewalks, Trails

The Noblesville Common Council says sidewalks and trails are for people and bikes only.

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. -- If you drive your scooter on the sidewalk in Noblesville, you're going to get in trouble.

The Noblesville Common Council ruled Tuesday that sidewalks and trails are for people and bikes only and has introduced a new ordinance prohibiting motorized vehicles from using them.

That means no golf carts, scooters, ATVs, or any of the other following vehicles:

  • motorcycle
  • off-road vehicle
  • farm tractor
  • farm truck
  • farm vehicle loaded with product
  • garden/lawn tractor
  • low-speed vehicle
  • bicycle powered by a motor or engine
  • and any motorized piece of equipment or machinery, such as a garden tractor or operated with a 2-cycle engine or larger that is being used for transportation or travel purposes.

Mobility devices like motorized wheelchairs are still allowed on trails and sidewalks.

Anyone caught violating the new ordinance may be fined $100 or more and have their vehicle impounded or seized. Parents of children violating the ordinance can be cited.
