Pope Appoints Bishop For Diocese of Evansville

Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Siegel will assume his new role in December.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- Pope Francis has appointed Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Siegel to lead the Diocese of Evansville.

Siegel is currently serving in Joliet, Illinois. He was selected for that role by Pope Benedict XVI in 2009.

Bishop Siegel will replace Archbishop Charles Thompson, who recently left Evansville to lead the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.

Siegel will be installed as leader of the Diocese on December 15.
