Prosecutors Seek Life Without Parole in Clerk Death

Marion County prosecutors will seek a sentence of life without parole for the suspect in the fatal shooting of a convenience store clerk.

Desi Thomas Jr. is facing two counts each of murder and robbery in the June 4 shooting death of Harry Briggs, a clerk at Joe's Junction convenience store on the city's west side.

According to court documents, Thomas entered the store, pointed a handgun at Briggs and another store employee, and demanded money before firing three shots at Briggs.

Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry said Thomas' "intentional acts" are grounds to justify a life sentence without parole.

Thomas' next court appearance was scheduled for Oct. 7.
