Police arrested what they're calling a serious violent felon following a chase on the city's east side Friday afternoon.

IMPD Officer Rafael Diaz says an officer attempted to make a traffic stop near East 25th Street and North Olney Street around 4:00.  The driver of the car refused to stop and led officers on a chase which saw the suspect ram the patrol car of another office.

The suspect continued to the intersection of Ridgewood Drive and Wellington Avenue, near 34th and Franklin, where he rammed the officers patrol car again and came to a stop in a nearby yard.  The driver got out of his car and ran from officers.  The suspect was seen pulling a gun from his waistband and dropping it while he ran.

The suspect was cut off by another officer's car and officers then attempted to arrest the suspect who began to resist.  The suspect was able to take one of the officers to the ground and during the scuffle, the officer's gun discharged.  No one was hurt.

Officers were finally able to get the suspect, later identified as 23-year-old Quincy Archer of Indianapolis, under arrest.  They found cocaine and drug paraphernalia in Archer's car as well as the gun Archer dropped while running.

Archer was taken to the Arrestee Processing Center.  He faces preliminary charges of Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon, Dealing and Possession of Cocaine, Criminal Recklessness, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Theft and Driving While Suspended with a Prior Conviction.

Police say more charges may be added.
