The Shooting of Steve Scalise: Indiana Colleagues Have Words for Their Friend
ALEXANDRIA, Va.--Indiana's Congressional delegation were tweeting about the shooting of Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise, after he was shot in the hip this morning about 7:15, while practicing for the annual Congressional Baseball Game in Alexandria, Virginia.
Rep. Andre Carson and Rep. Jim Banks both tweeted that their thoughts and prayers are with the Republican Majority Whip; Sen. Todd Young said that fellow senator Joe Donnelly was also practicing for the game. Donnelly confirmed that he was practicing with the Democrats in a different location and is okay.

Rep. Todd Rokita was not scheduled to play in the game, but was practicing when he was shot this morning. But he was near there, ready to watch.

Rokita said the security detail that was there was for Scalise, and he would have been the only one there to have that security, being in leadership.
"We heard about it in the gym and jaws were dropping everywhere," said Rokita, describing a scene where people were getting ready for practice. The baseball game, which is for local DC charities, was scheduled for Thursday.
"Guys were getting ready, guys were hopping out of the shower, chatting. And then all of the sudden-in the gym there's TVs spaced periodically throughout-and people started gathering around the TVs and people couldn't believe it."
Rokita described the people involved as pals and colleagues.
"These are all good friends, dear friends, good friends. Mo Brooks, Steve Scalise, of course, our whip, terrific leaders of our country, phenomenal human beings."
Praying for my friend Steve Scalise and everyone at the practice this morning. https://t.co/s9usbZ1YYO— Jim Banks (@RepJimBanks) June 14, 2017
