Ten Point Coalition Gearing Up For Summer Youth
The Indianapolis Ten Point Coalition is kicking off its Summer Youth Violence Reduction Initiative.
Rev. Charles Harrison says this year they're supporting the "Clean for Green" Summer Youth Jobs Program. The program employs young people in some of the city's six high crime areas. Harrison says they'll also put more outreach workers on city streets during nighttime and daytime hours and they'll create more safe havens for youth in high crime areas during the summer. Harrison says they helped more than 400 young people last year and they hope to reach more than 500 this year.
The initiative is financed by The Community First Prayer Breakfast which raised about $30,000 last year. Rev. Harrison says they're reaching out to corporate donors and hope to raise $50,000 this year. This year's breakfast is set for Friday, June 5th at 7:30 a.m. at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
