Threat Made At Beech Grove Schools "Blown Out Of Proportion" Says Superintendent

Superintendent Paul Kaiser says a threat made last week by a student has already been addressed and he's no longer in school.

BEECH GROVE, Ind. -- Social media posts made Sunday night about a threat made against Beech Grove City Schools were "blown out of proportion" says superintendent Paul Kaiser.

Kaiser tells 93 WIBC the threat had been made last week and were already handled by the school system.

"We had a young man last week who liked a girl.  She didn't like him, so he said he was going to shoot up the school," says Kaiser.

"We addressed it with the kid.  There's no threat.  The kid doesn't have a gun [and] he's not in school," according to Kaiser.

However, a rumor about that threat made its way onto social media and was spread by students and parents Sunday.

The school addressed the threat on their Facebook page Monday morning:

"We probably should have been more detailed [about the resolution of the threat] in that post," says Superintendent Kaiser.

Beech Grove City Schools sent out the following e-mail to parents Monday morning:

Dear Beech Grove Parents:

We want to clarify our Facebook post from this morning with additional information.   Last week, a high school student made a threat to another student in regards to a personal relationship issue.  The high school administration addressed the threat immediately and the student making the statement was removed from the school setting at that time and is currently not attending Beech Grove City Schools.

The Beech Grove Police Department was involved from the very beginning. There was never a credible threat to students at Beech Grove High School or any other buildings.

Late on Sunday night, social media exploded with rumors that there was going to be a shooting in the high school cafeteria.  There was never a real threat to any students because the situation was addressed and resolved last week.

We are sorry about the concerns that have arisen from this situation and we assure you that the safety of all students is the most important and critical aspect of the Beech Grove City Schools Team.  If you hear rumors, or see information posted indicating a possible threat on any Facebook page, please contact us directly by messaging us on our district Facebook page.  Our page is monitored seven days per week.

Thank you for contacting the school district with your concerns this morning. Please do not hesitate to follow-up if you have any additional questions.  Please feel free to contact Dr. Paul Kaiser at the District Administration building at (317) 788-4481.
