Union City Ranked Poorest City In Indiana; 14th Poorest Nationwide

The city in Randolph County has a poverty rate that's over double the statewide poverty rate

UNION CITY, Ind-- It's a distinction no town wants to have, but that distinction has been given to Union City. 

Union City has been named the poorest city in Indiana, according to 24/7 Wall Street. 

31% of people in Union City live below the poverty line, which is more than twice of Indiana's statewide rate of 15.4% . 

About 1 in 4 people living in Union City receive food stamps compared to 12.5% of Hoosiers statewide. 

The town median household income in Union City is $31,238 while the statewide median household income is $49,255. 

Nationwide, Union City ranks 14th among America's poorest cities. 24/7 Wall Street ranked Selma, Alabama the poorest city in America. Selma has a median household income of $22,414 and a poverty rate of 42%.
