Washington Co. Sheriff Crashes Vehicle After 'Medical Issue'

Sheriff Claude Combs was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Washington County Sheriff is recovering after crashing his department-issued vehicle Wednesday afternoon.

Indiana State Police say Sheriff Claude Combs, 65, was heading westbound on State Road 60 in rural Washington County when he experienced a medical issue.  His SUV crossed into the eastbound lanes and off the roadway, striking a ditch and flipping several times.

Combs was taken to St. Vincent Hospital in Salem with non-life-threatening injuries.  State Police did not say what type of medical issue led to Combs losing control of the vehicle.

State Police say Combs was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.
