WGU Implements Tuition Discount for Veterans

Veterans have a new college scholarship opportunity in Indiana.

The online university WGU has established a one-sixth tuition discount for veterans, reservists, and spouses and children of active-duty military. That's 500 dollars per term against tuition of roughly three-thousand dollars.

Chancellor Allison Barber says about one-eighth of W-G-U's students are veterans. She says the flexibility of the online curriculum and the ability to speed through material you already know are a good fit with the mindset veterans develop in the military and the need to balance their studies with jobs.

And Barber says the program will plug some of the gap left by limitations in the GI Bill for pre-09/11 veterans.

WGU marked Veterans' Day with a table at Indianapolis City Market to hand out flags and information about the scholarship.
