Former Trump Campaign Adviser Papadopoulos Pleads Guilty

George Papadopoulos admitted to making false statements to the FBI about his contact with foreign nationals tied to the Russian government.

WASHINGTON, DC  --  A third player in the Russia investigation is cooperating with the government after reaching a secret agreement with Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

Former Donald Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos agreed to plead guilty three weeks ago to making false statements to the FBI about his contact with foreign nationals tied to the Russian government.

The 30-year-old Papadopoulos initially told the FBI he made the contacts before he joined the Trump team in March 2016.  He actually communicated with them after being named to Trump's foreign policy team.  The documents show how the Russian government sought a relationship with at least one campaign official and offered "dirt" on Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

Papadopolous has been providing information to the FBI since July, according to the Associated Press.

Former Campaign Chairman Paul Manafort and his associate Rick Gates were indicted this morning on 12 counts, including conspiracy against the United States.
