NC Brothers Freed After 30 Years In Prison

(Raleigh, NC) -- Two North Carolina brothers who had spent more than 30 years behind bars are free after being declared innocent. Henry McCollum and his half brother Leon Brown were in prison for the rape and murder of an eleven-year-old girl. Today, a judge ordered the two men to be freed after DNA evidence linked the crime to another man. The brothers were 19- and 15-years-old at the time of the crime and both claimed they had been coerced to sign a detailed confession. McCollum had been North Carolina's longest-serving death row inmate.
