Obama Orders Review Of Military Equipment To Police Departments

(Washington, DC) -- President Obama is ordering a thorough review of a decades-old policy that allows local police departments to receive military equipment. The "New York Times" reports the comprehensive review will include an examination of training requirements for departments that receive the equipment. Word of the review comes not long after the world got a shocking glimpse of what a local police force looks like armed with military weaponry as cops in Ferguson, Missouri took to the streets amid protests that descended into riots on several occasions.
Attorney General Eric Holder issued a statement today saying the equipment, quote "flowed to local police forces because they were increasingly asked to assist in counterterrorism." However, given the situation in Ferguson, Holder says it clearly "makes sense" to take another look at that policy now.
