Steve Bannon Out As White House Chief Strategist

A statement from Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders says Bannon and Chief of Staff John Kelly agreed that "today would be Steve's last day."

WASHINGTIN, D.C -- The White House confirms the news that Chief Strategist Steve Bannon is gone.

A statement from Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders says Bannon and Chief of Staff John Kelly agreed that "today would be Steve's last day."  The statement wishes Bannon the best and expresses gratitude for his service.

Bannon was a key architect of Trump's surprise victory in the presidential election.  The former Briebart chief has been a lightning rod of controversy for his role as a leader of the so-called "alt right" nationalist movement.

President Trump was pressed about Bannon's status at his news conference in New York this week.  He said, "We'll see what happens."  Trump called Bannon a good man who is, quote -- "not a racist."

Bannon had reportedly clashed with other top White House officials, including Jared Kushner.  Kushner is the President's son-in-law.

The Bannon move comes as Chief of Staff Kelly continues putting his own stamp on White House operations.
