Texas National Guard Troops Start Deployment At Border

(Undated) -- Members of the Texas National Guard are beginning to deploy along the Mexican border. Law enforcement officials say the purpose of the troops is to battle crime in the region that's been flooded by illegal immigrants. A deputy with the Hidalgo County Sheriff says the first of the one-thousand troops have taken positions in places used for monitoring border activity. Governor Rick Perry says the deployment is expected to cost the state 12-million-dollars a month.
