Today Marks 40th Anniversary Of Nixon Resignation

(Washington, DC) -- Today the 40th anniversary of Richard Nixon boarding a helicopter and leaving the White House after resigning as President of the United States. The night before the resignation became official, Nixon told the nation in a broadcast speech he thought he had enough support in Congress to fight on. A short time after Nixon's resignation became effective at noon Eastern on August 9th, Vice President Gerald Ford was sworn-in to succeed him.
