CAYCE, SC -- At least two people are dead and 70 people injured after a passenger train smashed into a freight train in South Carolina this morning.

South Carolina Red Cross Spokesman Cuthbert Langley said those injuries range from scrapes to broken bones.  The injured have been taken to local hospitals. It's not clear if the fatalities were on the passenger train or freight train.

Amtrak reports the Silver Service train operating between New York and Miami hit a CSX freight train a around 2:35 a.m. Eastern time in Cayce near the capital of Columbia.  The lead engine and some passenger cars derailed.
