TX National Guard Hasn't Deployed To Mexican Border For Surge

(Austin, TX) -- Texas National Guard troops have yet to deploy to the Mexican border as part of a surge to fight drug and human traffickers. A Texas Military Forces spokesperson says there are soldiers currently on the border, but they aren't part of Operation Strong Safety. They're instead helping other federal agencies and have been there since 2006. The spokesperson also says media reports yesterday suggesting the troops had deployed aren't true. A thousand troops are scheduled to go to the border in the near future.
