Unemployment Claims Drop

(Undated) -- First-time claims for unemployment benefits are way down. The Labor Department reports 289-thousand people filed claims last week. That's 14-thousand fewer than the previous week's adjusted total of 303-thousand. States with the biggest jumps in first-time claims are Washington, New Jersey, Maryland, Rhode Island and Oregon. The sharpest declines are in Michigan, Ohio, New York, South Carolina and Pennsylvania.
