White House Requesting Harvey Disaster Aid Bill From Congress

President Trump's homeland security adviser says at least 100-thousand homes have been affected by the monster storm.

WASHINGTON -- The White House will request emergency funding from Congress on Harvey disaster aid.

At a briefing today, Homeland Security Adviser Tom Bossert said the request will be submitted soon.  Lawmakers return from their August recess next week.

President Trump's homeland security adviser says at least 100,000 homes have been affected by the monster storm.

Bossert said more than a dozen states are sending resources to Texas to help with Harvey recovery efforts. Some early estimates of flood damage in Texas exceed $160 billion.

Vice President Mike Pence visited Rockport, Texas today to survey the damage.

President Trump tentatively plans to visit Houston, Texas and Lake Charles, Louisiana on Saturday. He is pledging one-million dollars from his personal funds to Harvey relief efforts.

First Lady Melania Trump will join her husband on the trip to assess flood relief operations.  The President visited Texas on Tuesday.
