White House Set To Declassify FISA Memo

President Trump is expected to release a memo detailing unlawful surveillance of his presidential campaign by federal law enforcement Friday

WHITE SULFUR SPRINGS, WV  --  GOP House Speaker Paul Ryan is defending the pending release of a controversial Republican memo on the Russia investigation. 

At the annual House and Senate GOP retreat in West Virginia today, he called it part of Congress' legitimate oversight of the intelligence community. 

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi wants Devin Nunes removed as chairman of the Intelligence Committee, accusing Nunes in a letter to house Speaker Paul Ryan of deliberately dishonest actions that make him unfit to chair the panel. These stem from claims from the top Democrat on the committee, Adam Schiff, that Nunes made unapproved "edits" to the memo. Ryan has dismissed Democratic calls to remove Nunes calling it a political distraction.

Nunes has led efforts to release the memo, which alleges anti-Trump sentiments at the FBI. The memo was written by the Republican staff of the House intel panel. 

Top FBI and Justice Department officials strongly urged against release of the memo out of fear national security could be compromised. Speaker Ryan has insisted that national security will not be jeopardized by the release of the classified memo.  

The memo is being looked over the legal staff at the White House. President Trump is expected to declassify the memo tomorrow.
